Thursday and Friday

We got into Beijing Thurs night and then Friday had a full day of tourist activities.  We are all a bit sleep deprived, but Avery seems to be able to sleep pretty well (she just wakes up at 4 am) and last night (Friday night) we all slept pretty well.  On Friday, we toured the Temple of Heaven, went to a hutong (traditional chinese house), rode in a rickshaw and went to an acrobatic show.    The picture of Avery on the plane is from our flight out of Richmond.  She had to get up at 4:40 am the morning we flew out, and was very excited, but said she was going to "rest" on the plane (her words exactly)!   I (Andrea) included the picture of the river because there is ice floating on it!  It has warmed up quite a bit since the snow they had last week, but it is still pretty cold.  I think the high is in the low 40's, and it's very windy, especially at the tourist attractions which are big open areas with wind whipping in.   Avery managed to convince Tripp to carry her on his shoulders for part of the time.  We were so tired by the end of the day that Avery fell asleep before the acrobatic show.  The loud noises of the show woke her and I held her on my lap so she could see, and then I fell asleep during the show because I was very warm with my coat still on and Avery on my lap!  The picture of the snow man is actually a snow rabbit and sinee  Avery was carrying around Hoppity (her class's mascot that goes home with a different child each week and has adventures) today, a Chinese man wanted her to pose with Hoppity near the snow sculpture.  We couldn't really understand what he was asking, but finally we understood!  I will have to send it that picture to Avery's teacher for Hoppity's journal.  All of these pictures are from my camera because Tripp was out to dinner with a chirorpractor from Beijing when I wrote this!  Today (Saturday) we will see the Forbidden City, Tianamen Square and the Great Wall (very busy day).  Then Sunday, we fly to Changsha.   Two more days until we get Garnett!
